About Us
GEMiNY, short for Gayakeum Ensemble Music in New York, is an emerging company of young musicians led by Rami Seo. It was founded in 2007 when a handful of veteran novice gayakeum-enthusiasts got together and experienced the magical phenomenon called making music. Embodying a spirit unencumbered by conventionally prescribed boundaries, today’s GEMiNY is an eclectic group comprising 2nd and 3rd generation Korean-American gayakeum protéges, immigrant professionals from Korea, and occasionally... adventurous guest artists from all walks of music and culture who want in on the fun and joy. It is the first of its kind in the United States, and its mission is to represent and promote the unique Korean-American voice of New York by embracing both the traditional Korean as well as the polyphonic collaborative character of today’s global music scene.

Rami Seo is an accomplished Gayakeumist who performs an expansive repertoire on the 12-string and 25-string Gayakeum, including traditional Korean court music, sanjo epics, Gayakeum byong-chang, and contemporary compositions. She has performed in Korea, Japan, China, South America and the U. S as a soloist.
